Optional/additional activities
DAY 1
The adventure begins at Victoria Falls. Today is all about settling into the trip. We have a welcome briefing this
evening, our first chance to meet and to ask your guide any questions you have. After setting up camp, enjoy a
relaxed afternoon with optional activities such as a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River or a visit to the local markets.
DAY 2
You have a free day with a choice of several optional activities, including scenic flights, white water rafting and
game-viewing among others. Victoria Falls is a small town on the Zimbabwean side of the glorious Victoria Falls “The
Smoke That Thunders”, which you can visit (entrance own expense US$50).
DAY 3
Cross into Botswana home to huge numbers of elephants and hippos and settle into a campsite near Chobe. In the
afternoon, enjoy a sunset boat cruise on the Chobe River, famous for large elephant herds and river wildlife.
DAY 4
Go on an early morning game drive inside Chobe National Park, tracking lions, buffalo, antelope, and an afternoon
boat ride on the Chobe River, where it is possible to view huge herds of elephants coming to drink plus many other
animals.
DAY 5
Drive through the Caprivi Strip into Namibia, arriving at your riverside campsite in Divundu. Enjoy a tranquil sunset
and the sounds of the Okavango River – the main watercourse supplying the Okavango Delta.
We take a mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) ride from our camp on the Okavango River. Please note, the river may
be flooded in March/April and we may have to substitute our mokoros for a boat ride. The birdlife is prolific and, at
certain times of the year, so is the game. Gliding through the waterways by mokoro is the ideal way to absorb the
sheer tranquillity of the place. You also have the option of a village tour to meet the local community.
DAY 6
Travel southward to Etosha National Park. Arrive at your campsite inside or just outside the park and get a first
glimpse of wildlife during a late afternoon game drive.
Etosha is home to a great variety and number of animals, which are easy to find as they congregate at different
times around the waterholes. There are waterholes next to the excellent campsites and it is not uncommon for us to
spend all night watching a gala performance of animals: wildebeest, zebras, impalas, springboks, kudu, elephants,
giraffes, lions and even rhinos are all common sights here. With a little patience, you are rewarded by one of the
greatest game spectacles in southern Africa. Etosha is also a good place for birds, with plenty of waterbirds on the
lakes, weaverbirds and hornbills in the trees.
DAY 7
Spend a full day on guided game drives through Etosha’s diverse landscapes, visiting waterholes and spotting
elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes, and more.
DAY 8
Drive into Damaraland’s dramatic terrain. Visit UNESCO-listed Twyfelfontein, known for ancient San rock engravings,
and camp under the starlit desert sky.
DAY 9
Descend to the coast and arrive in the charming seaside town of Swakopmund. Overnight in a hotel. Enjoy optional
activities like sandboarding, quad biking, or simply a seafood dinner by the ocean.
DAY 10
Free day to explore the town or join a Sandwich Harbour excursion, catamaran cruise, or scenic flight over the
Namib Desert.
Swakopmund is the adventure sports capital of Namibia, and we have a full day here to enjoy the optional adventure
activities available; go on a dolphin cruise or township tour or take a flight over the desert! Alternatively, explore the
German-style town and visit some of the excellent cake shops.
DAY 11
Drive via Walvis Bay to Sesriem through the scenic Gaub and Kuiseb passes into the heart of the Namib Desert. This
area is home to some of the driest and oldest deserts on earth and some of the finest desert scenery in Africa with
towering, jagged rock formations and incredible lunar landscapes. Set up camp near Sesriem and prepare for an
early start the next day.
DAY 12
We have a full day to enjoy the Sossusvlei dunes and Sesriem Canyon. We wake early to watch the morning light
over the dunes and then climb one of the highest dunes in the world. If you’d rather watch from below, you can
enjoy seeing the changing colours on the towering dunes as the sun rises. If we’re lucky, we may see gemsbok,
ostriches or even blackbacked jackals among the dunes, an irresistibly photogenic scene! In the afternoon, we visit
Sesriem Canyon.
DAY 13
We leave early this morning to journey south to Fish River Canyon, the second-largest canyon in the world. Set up
camp and enjoy a sunset view over the canyon rim.
DAY 14
Travel toward the Orange River and overnight at the scenic Felix Unite Lodge. Optional canoeing activity on the river
or relax by the pool.
DAY 15
In the morning, we leave Namibia and cross into South Africa. We head to our final stop the iconic city of Cape Town
travelling through farmlands of citrus, maize, cattle and sheep before arriving. Check into your hotel and unwind
after the long drive.
DAY 16
Full day to explore the Mother City. Take the cable car up Table Mountain, visit Cape Point, Boulders Beach, or enjoy
the vibrant V&A Waterfront.
DAY 17
It’s your final day of the trip and time to begin your return journeys home. If you have free time before your flight,
there are optional activities available, including a trip to see Table Mountain. If you’d prefer to extend your time in
Cape Town, speak to your guide about booking additional nights. Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy some
last-minute shopping or sightseeing before transfer to the airport.
